Galaxy Note 2 self-reboots/crashes several times in a row : likely causes

My Note 2 started to have this behavior of self rebooting several times (range of 3 to 9) times in a row
since 2 weeks ago: it's not connected to a laptop / powerbank when such behavior occurs.   I'm not
aware of any changes done to it.

even if I take off the battery & then put it back & boots it up, it would crash again : usually if I power
it down for more than 30 mins & boots up, it will stabilize for a day or so.

About 2 weeks ago, my kid's iPhone 6 also self rebooted several times & the shop's technician says
usually upgrading the IOS & possibly changing the battery will help.

For my Android phone, wud upgrading the the Android help?  Or it's related to battery or it's
malware infected?  At around 2 weeks ago, I also noticed the microSD in the Note 2 was reported
to be "blank" which I'm sure used to contain files/data etc

What could be wrong?  Any free malware scanner for Android?

Just installed n run malwarebytes:
It 1st reported 'yr device has issues' so I click 'Fix It' then run Full Scan which did not reveal any malwares.

The scan detected files in /mnt/sd/...

Cleared cache.  Will boot into Safe Mode when this next happens.

I m not aware of any new apps being installed a few days prior to this issue tho a few weeks earlier, I hv installed Uber n Grabtaxi apps which are commonly used by drivers n passengers

> download the apps from Google Play Store?
You mean the apps to take the backup?  Haven't done the backup yet.

So far it's been stable till now.  But I'll still take a backup with the iFlash
device I just got
Good.

I mean whether did you install apps from .apk files instead of downloading the apps from Google Play Store.

All apps are from Play Store, nothing from apk.

Still stable till today.

One last question: is it ok to install 2 AV on Android.  I noticed Kaspersky is higher rated than malwarebytes

And it is better to use a paid av, not a free one.
I have used a number of paid AV for my numerous android devices and they are:-

Norton, McAfee, F-Secure

The AV is important for me as they will scan the apk file for malware as I need to test apps from time to time.
The free products can be just as good as the paid ones. I never use paid products and have had no issues with the free ones. The "ratings" are also no good way to decide whether a product is better than the others. Lower rated products are very often a lot better than highly rated ones. Although you can install several AV products, make sure only one of them is active at the same time. If they are active simultaneously they will often get into the way of the other.
There are some features of a AV app which is only available when you PAY.

If you just want the antivirus feature, you can go for the free version.
