Xampp Not Stopping
I'm running Xampp on Win10 and after I've shut down Apache (and all other services), and exited the control panel, when I view the Windows Task List, there's loads of instances of Xampp running, is there something I'm doing wrong?

Damn, I just rebooted the PC to clear it, there was just a list of Xampp control panels though, not much to see.
Try using the xampp control panel to shut down apache. There is a chance that the control panel detects that the server was stopped and is trying to restart it.

I did all the shut down I could from the control panel, nothing was running. I then shut down the control panel, the there was still load of instances showing in Task List.

I was just wondering if someone port-sniffed and found a listening webserver - is the apache limited to localhost by default?
apache is not limited to localhost by default.

Oopps....I better shut that little window to the world down....hopefully its limited to htdocs though..
it should be limited to htdocs.
Remember that in addition to apache, xampp also starts an MySQL server as well as a process to monitor what servers are up.
