iMac seeing all SBS Server
An iMac (El Capitan) appears to be able to see all of the folders on the local Microsoft SBS 2011 Server.
The iMac says it is a workgroup computer and it has not been joined to the SBS's domain.
The usernames on the iMac bear no relation to the domain/users that have access to the SBS Server.
Finder/Go/Connect to Server has no entries.
Where might these links be being generated from?

This person has created a great and easy how-to for properly joining the Mac to the Windows domain:

FYI, by the time they got to releasing Server 2012 Essentials, the http://connect has a Mac version connector which will automatically do this.

You don't really need to join the Mac to AD, unless you want to sign on with AD accounts. You should be able to connect to a share without it. It will just prompt you for a user name and password when you connect. If you're using an account in the domain, it will use the credentials of the AD account you logged in with.

Many thanks but we have a different situation. The iMac can see all the shared folders and directories on the server and it's not obvious where the username/password information has been entered and stored.
I think that I have removed all the SMB entries but clearly it's being picked up from somewhere.

It's not a different situation. If you join the iMac to the domain there won't be separate usernames and passwords to manage.
The user may have previously saved the password. Run Keychain Access.app to see if they're stored there.

Many thanks - will examine tomorrow.

That did it - many thanks.
What was odd was that I couldn't find the password entry. However when I typed the server name into the search bar it appeared.
I deleted it and was still able to gain entry. I rebooted the iMac and it appears clear.
Once again many thanks.
