100W Car to laptop charger kept cutting off
https://www.amazon.com/Sienoc-Mains-Charger-Inverter-Adapter/dp/B00GSHRRG4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466259087&sr=8-1&keywords=car+to+laptop+charger+sienoc
I got the above item but when I charge even small items like XP18000A powerbank (not to mention my
65W X61 thinkpad), it would cut off within 15 secs. This adaptor feels hot easily & after unplugging &
waiting for ten mins or so, it allows me to charge again. This is simply unusable
I got the above as it could convert to 220V which is what my place/Commonwealth are using.
The other one is the brand Tenflyer but that one doesn't have any amazon rating at all.
Would getting those higher watts (say 200W or 300W) adaptors help? These are 110V but my
Thinkpads & powerbanks could be charged too.
My car is Honda airwave made in 2009

Are you using a cigarette lighter to power the adapter?
Cigarette lighter power is limited and may be the issue, otherwise you have a faulty adapter that may be rated as more than it can deliver.
Return it under its warranty or buy another that is rated at least twice your power requirements.

Yes, I'm using the cig lighter. It's my fault but even if it's not my
faulty, not feasible to ship all the way back to USA to return
> I have an adapter in my car that is 100 watts or less. No issue
John, mind sharing which is yours?
Thanks Jackie, looks like you're spot on. But will be good if you
can refer me to an adapter that gives a 3pin output as the model
you've indicated seems to connect directly to laptops only

My adapter is an elderly Star Tech box (made in Kitchener, ON Canada when I purchased it about 15 years ago).
I do not think you could get one, so a good brand name adapter will work.

Would like to take my unit & the unit above as example:
They provide 110-220V output & will only shut down if there's "over-voltage"
or "under-voltage" so I'm reckoning the XP18000A requires 19V input which
is way too much below the 110V the adaptor supplies, thus the shutdown?
Ie this is not an over voltage but under voltage case?

What would make it easy for me is to provide an amazon/eBay link of a model
that works for my car with my XP18000A (& sometimes my 65W Thinkpad
adapter which connects to my Thinkpad X61 & X201)

The problem is from the idea of using an inverter which is not a common method to charge your devices.
For your XP18000A, you can only charge it via USB cable, instead of using a 3 pin socket.
Your power source from a car can only be dc 12v and you cannot convert it to a usage like the 3 pin socket in your home.
The car charger you have bought is for charging normal household small appliance like electric shaver.
If you want to charge a DC 19V device, you need a step up transformer, not a converter. It is my memory from Physics lesson at secondary school. To convert DC 12V to DC 19V is a typical transformer use case.
If you want to charge your Thinkpad, I will try to find a Lenovo car charger and will post back to you ASAP.

I ask myself why do we buy crap online from China...
Most of it is crap which of course can be refunded via PayPal insurance, but at the expense of the return shipping cost vs the actual refund.
Go to an electrical store and buy a product that works with a replacement guarantee.
All but every thing is now made or assembled in cheap ass factories overseas...

The part I pointed to can be purchased from a good dealer. Not cheap but appears to be good quality.
Thanks for your input John...
I wish that my recent experience of online bad purchases are not the norm.

Incorrect, the XP18000A can only be charged via a special 19V port; it could output power
via USB & 2 special ports that gives much higher voltage
I have a mix of good plus bad experiences at eBay & Amazon but Amazon has more of
non-China made products, just that shipping is a hassle for me

My XP18000A charges fine from the 3pin plug from the wall.
I'll try:

The unit you link to looks pretty light duty. I suggest you get a sturdier unit and it should be trouble free.
