will a Compaq Presario V5000 run Windows 7?
Hello and Good Morning Everyone,
I might be wiping and reloading a Compaq Presario V5000 (V5315WM) which is currently running Windows XP SP3 for a friend. Seeing that Microsoft no longer offers any kind of software and driver support for XP, I am wondering if this machine might can possibly handle Windows 7.
If this will help, here are some technical details about this laptop. 1.87GB of RAM with a 1.79GHz AMD Turion 64 Mobile Chip. Noting this machine is certainly behind the times, I am not sure it is worth the bother with respect to time and possibly money for any necessary hardware upgrades.
Any shared thoughts to this question will greatly be appreciated.
Thank you
George

Compaq Windows 7 disc ... which will install without a key
It is not true most of the times. Unless the BIOS of the computer have a OEM specific cert of SLIC 2.0 or 2.1, but it is unlikely that HP has done the above to a notebook running and designed for Windows XP.

That's likely true; but I have yet to see an OEM system [HP, Dell, etc.] that wouldn't install any version of Windows from XP through '7 from OEM install media without requiring a key.
You do need a license but they can be had now inexpensively on eBay (Check the vendor out).
I still think the machine is woefully underpowered and I never ceased to be amazed by people who say they need nothing but want the world.

You are very welcome and I was pleased to assist.
Also, there might be drivers for win 7 problem as you cannot find them anywhere as HP only supports you to run win XP.
