Clone one drive unto another
A lab machine in a hospital crash and they want to clone a good hard drive and then swap the new hard drive into this. How to go about this and what software you recommend??

If you clone to a USB hard drive or drive in a USB carrier, 200 GB could take a couple of hours or a bit more based on my own experience.
I use clonezilla http://clonezilla.org/ (OpenSource) and acronis(Commercial) http://www.acronis.com/
> how long does this take
Of course, the answer is...it depends...and there are many factors. But here's one real-life example for you. A few days ago I used Casper to clone a laptop's 512GB SSD (with three partitions and 416GB total used space) to a 500GB HDD in a docking station. The overall transfer rate was 7088 MB per minute and the elapsed time was 4 hours and 54 minutes. It was the first time I cloned to that drive, which is why it took so long. The next day, the same clone (i.e., the same source and destination drives) had an overall transfer rate of 3284 MB per minute and an elapsed time of just 11 minutes. That's because Casper's SmartClone technology kicks in after the first successful clone. Regards, Joe
