VOIP system - is 50down/5up enough?
Hi all,
We're looking to try a VOIP system. Maybe about 4 lines total.
We have Time Warner cable which gives us 50 down / 5 up. Is that enough bandwidth to host our VOIP system?
Thanks in advance.

More than enough for four line. I would call your existing phone people and verify.

Sorry, i'm a VOIP newb. When you say, "call your existing phone people and verify". what exactly does that entail?
Also, when i see a description like, "Cisco SPA504G 4-Line IP Phone", does it mean that this particular system can only ramp up to 4 phone numbers total, with no option to add additional phone numbers?

Amazing stuff - thanks.
You also mentioned that we shouldn't be using consumer grade switches. We have a tight budget. I'd like to get a POE switch that's dedicated to the phones - maybe 16 ports with 8 of them being POE.
Any particular brand/model that appeals to you?

Thanks again. I'm going to start the search with this POE switch:
NETGEAR ProSAFE JGS516PE 16-Port Gigabit Rackmount PoE Web Managed (Plus) Switch with 8 PoE Ports 85w (JGS516PE-100NAS)
