Force Active Directory USN Rollback in Hyper-V (client) Test Lab
Hi guys,
strange question maybe. Im trying to force a USN Rollback in my test lab to improve my troubleshooting and restore skills.
i tried to restore from a snapshot and also copied the VM, deleted it from Hyper-V and did a import after some time and changes in the AD (registered it with the same ID). But my AD will not crash... Netlogon service keeps on running, AD replication is working, the USNs are OK (checked with Repadmin /showutdvec * cn=configuration,dc=domain ,dc=de)
Forest functional level ist 2012 R2, Windows 10 Client Hyper-V (Verison 1511)
any suggestions how i can force the usn rollback?

Your colleague would be the best place to get a reference for the statement that they made.
The Virtual Machine ID in hyper-V has nothing to do with AD.
To clarify, I am not suggesting that you clone the two Domain Controllers by using snapshots, I am suggesting that you take offline snapshots of of the VMs, you would build the two Domain Controllers and dcpromo them as normal.

Your colleague is talking about VM Generation-ID (see MS blog).

Maybe somebody have a reference for that?
i think snapshot will not work because of virtual machine ID in hyper-v.
