Freenas or better suggestion for simple iscsi - WIndows 2012 is also a possibility

I need to set up a simple one connection ISCSI datastore on either end of a 2 esxi standalone setup that will share a datastore one to the other.  I'm looking for suggestions on the lightest implementation of ISCSI to do the job.  Freenas is greedy and recommends atleast 8GB of RAM for the task, which I think is insane for my use.

Fire away.

Thanks!

WIndows and linux.  CentOS mainly on the linux side.  Still, If I don't have to eat up a vcpu, i'd like to go with product like starwind.  I remember Starwind having a simple ISCSI installation that only installed the ISCSI portion and would allow non-dedup'd/unencrypted virtual disk files.  Looking at their website now, I can't find anything but the virtual san product.

Is that the same thing?
yes, just changed the name, to keep it update to date, and fashionable.
