How to create a drop-down list in Excel
Hi experts,
I am trying to create a drop-down list in Excel using the Help guide at the top of Excel. It seems relatively straight forward even if it does seem a little awkward. I am following all the steps, but I cannot get it to work exactly as it should.
I wonder, also, if part of it is that my spreadsheets always seem to have the column titles on row one and the first row of data on row two. Is that normal?
Thank you.
Bert

What version of Excel are you using?

Hi Martin,
Thanks. Sorry, this is Excel 2013. I just got confused when I looked at the help guide. It shows the beginning of the process in the cell directly below the letter. But, I see there are no titles. I always use titles, and they always take up row 1. Which means the first patient in my practice will begin on row 2.
I guess I would think that if I were on row 100, it would be the 100th patient.

That's a great idea!
This drop-down list shouldn't be so hard. First, I have tried to use DataValidation to clear entries, but when I start over, it continues to tell me there is already an entry with that name. I am not sure if I am selecting the cells correctly.
In Column C it as the heading:
Records (under this I put
Sent
Not sent
Maybe I am not selecting them correctly. I am clicking in the Sent field and holding down shift and dragging down to the Not sent. Then right-clicking and choosing Define name. Then I am naming this. I have tried three times, so the three names I wish to use are already taken even though I am clearing them with the DataValidation step.
Maybe there is a better blog somewhere.
