How can we judge 100 Milliseconds of latency on an internet connection

Hello:

We are preparing to try out a Web Reporting program.  We were just informed that since we have Citrix Servers the service must use cookie surrogates for our Citrix Users, to help differentiate between the different users on the Citrix devices.

We can configure the web reporting to only use cookie surrogates from the Citrix Servers and to use something else fro our other users; but, i was told that there will be latency up to 100 milliseconds for every user that is using Citrix.  In the past some users have stated that any disruption in their work flow causes them to not be able to work at all.  Some users are more high-maintenance than others.

My question is, is there a way to tell what 100 milliseconds of latency for every internet session will look like before we turn this web reporting tool on?  

There will be a lot of work involved with setting this up and a lot of work with tearing this down if the users do not like it.  Even if I only have a focus group use testing out this new web reporting system, I will still need to make the configuration changes regardless.  Again my question ism, is there a way to tell how long 100 milliseconds will be before we actually try this out?

The answers to your questions are shown below:

1. On average, how many concurrent users are on this Citrix server?  Not how many people use Citrix, but how many people are typically on at the same time?
Answer: 11/Citrix Server (we have 3 separate CitrixServers).

2. How many of these concurrent users will need to use the tool?
Answer on Average, 11 users all work day long.  Weekends a couple at a time.
This specific program will forward all http/https traffic to a cloud service.  Hence, internet traffic will be used all the time.

3. How is the tool used?  Run once and save report or open and use to view content?
Answer:  This tool forwards all http and https traffic from the the Citrix environment to a could service for web reporting metrics.  Our users do use the web constantly all day (Work day 7:30 am - 6:00 pm)

3a.  If run once and save report, how long does a typical operation take?
Answer:  There are no reports saved like that.  The information is stored in a cloud service where I can logon remotely and can run reports or analyze metrics that way.


I am just afraid that if several users are using the internet simulateously there will be a multiplier effect and the latency per Citrix Server will be quite obvious.

Hello Mr. McFadden,

Does that mean that there might be 1.1 Seconds of latency every time a use may try something?   Or 1.1 sec of latency if they attempt to launch an internet browser?

I suppose the only way to tell is by actually trying it out.  But I fear that this may be continuous latency and that may slow down operational work flows.  

The owners of the company count how many clicks it takes them to complete a task in program and new clicks is unacceptable to them.  If we introduce latency to the operational work flow, even a 1.1 second delay every time they click on something.... they may find that to be unacceptable and I will need to find a quick exit strategy to put things as they were before.
