Server 2012 RRAS kills network connectivity

Hello,

Just migrated from Server 2003 to 2012 R2 standard.  I installed Remote Access and lost network and internet access.

This is a single server is setup with a single nic, running DNS and DHCP.

I can get network connection back if I disable the RRAS Service (Routing and Remote Access).

Not too sure where to start debugging this.

Thanks,

LA

It's a good idea to have TWO NICs while doing this.

chCck this article if it helps..

A common problem is the Virtual Adapter's IP gets added to DNS.  When this happens client and the server have no DNS. Open the DNS management console, right click on the server name and choose properties, and click the Interfaces tab.  Uncheck use all and select the physical NIC's IP (IP4 & IPv6).  Do not check the VPN adapter.

ASKER

Sorry been away for a couple of weeks.

Hi Rob,

No Virtual Adapters, there are only 2 IP address IPV4 and IPV6.

Hi Ertan,

Let me see if I understand this, I am supposed to setup a 2nd NIC on the LAN specifically for RRAS?

Sorry about the delay in getting back to this.   After weighing in on the options the  best solution was to use the routers VPN.

Thank you.
