Printing to shared HP printer...?

We have a user that has installed a HP Jet Pro 6830 printer via USB (pc running Windows 7 Pro).

The printer is shared, and 2 other users have connected to it via the share (running XP Pro).

When the network users print, the document 'fails to print', and the sender gets a non descriptive error?

When the network users print, the job DOES flash up in the print queue on the computer that has the printer attached, so they're definitely talking to the computer that has the printer?

They have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, having downloaded the latest version from HP (rather than using the CD) and have also changed the USB port.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

How do you get the printer installed on the XP client? Add printer and then browse to it? The Windows 7 computer is 32-bit correct?

ASKER

They used 'add printer', and selected from Directory. They also retried by browsing the network first, and then adding it that way.

I believe its 32-bin (TBC)

Thanks

Try firmware upgrade first. Then use the BASIC drivers instead of the full set.
You are trying to put 2016 drivers on a 2001 Operating System :) My guess would be a drivers issue. I would try Kimputer's suggestion of Basic Drivers or even take it a step farther. Set it up as a HP Inkjet on the Windows 7 box. Look through the list when you add it and pick the most basic inkjet available. Then try adding it like you did to the two XP boxes.
Have you installed the XP drivers on the sharing PC? They need to be installed under Printer Properties > Sharing > Additional Drivers button.

When you deleted the driver, did you remove it completely? To do that, first delete the printer. Then click on any other printer and then on "Print Server Properties". Click the driv ers tab and remove the printer from the list.
