Windows 10 pro connect with rdp to server 2012 r2

I have a new laptop with Windows 10. When I try to connect to our remote server for work, I get a message that the says Remote Desktop Connection cannot connect. I am able to connect with my android smart phone and was able to connect with my older pc before it crashed. The remote server is a Windows Server 2012 R2. I have confirmed the remote settings on my computer. I have tried a public connection and a private connection. Have not been able to find anything online when searching. Any ideas?

You are doing this from outside the LAN? Try stopping the firewall service from within the Services applet.

I am using Mcafee LiveSafe. I've turned off the firewall there. Still unable to connect. Should I disable McAfee entirely? And yes, I am connecting from outside the LAN. Have tried at home on my own wifi and am now at a hospital using their wifi. Have changed my connection to private from public.

I am unable to stop the firewall service. I get an error that says  Windows could not stop the windows firewall service on the local computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
So you aren't an administrator of this Laptop? Do you know how to telnet? Try Telneting to the remote address on port 3389 and see if you get a connection.
I think I'm the admin! :) Just used the advfirewall command to try to shut it down. I'll try to telnet and let you know what I get. It's a new laptop and I'm new to WIndows 10 so I'm certain this is an issue on my end of things.
