Word 2016 - Adding text before numbered list at top of document

Word 2016/Win10

Hey Word/Office Experts,

I created a doc that starts with a numbered list. Now, I need to add text before it, but Word is not letting me. Can it be done without removing the list, adding the text and then pasting the list back into the doc? Thanks!

OK, that looks good but what "space" do you mean?
Thanks!

You know what's odd. Now, I'm trying your directions, and when I press Enter for line 1, it does create the blank line I need. Without going through your directions. Maybe there are different setups for numbered lists that would explain this unexpected (yet helpful) behavior? :)
