Active Directory Monitoring - Holistic Approach.
Dear Experts,
I'm looking for a holistic guide to help me setup efficient monitoring of my AD Environment.
I have identified the following services to be critical to monitor:
Currently I have also identified the following counters to watch for:
To be frank, I'm looking for a good discussion on the subject. There's no right or wrong solution. If someone can point me to a decent guide that has been successfully implemented in the environment I'd be very obligated.

I have identified the following services to be critical to monitor:
- AD DS,
- AD WS,
- Net logon,
- DNS Client,
- DNS Server
- DFSR,
- KDS,
- Windows Time
Currently I have also identified the following counters to watch for:
- LDAP Active Threads
- LDAP Bind Time
- LDAP Client Sessions
- Directory Service Threads in Use
- LDAP Successful Binds/Sec
- LDAP Searches/Sec

I'm not sure this answers your "good discussion" but I use OpManager which has all these already available to monitor and set alerts for and saved me reinventing the wheel so to speak. And its free for up to 10 devices if your network is compact enough.

SCOM with the AD management pack installed for monitoring (SCCM isn't used for monitoring). Pretty much it will tell you everything you need to know about your environment and even things you probably don't care about. There are also non-Microsoft options mentioned above which might be suitable. I would recommend SCOM myself.
