asked on

internet access - not workin on some applications

A workstation PC running on a Windows 2008 server network, about 10 users. One of them has a problem accessing the Web, using Skpe, Outlook won't connect.

Everything else seems OK. I can Remote desktop to him (he can RDP out) and I have tried everything, ran malwarebytes, ran full Sophos scan. Tried pinging websites, OK.  Tried netcfg –d OK.  Checked firewall is off,  It is on office network fine, connects to the server. ip addrress allocated OK, DNS OK. I flushed DNS cache.

Also tried Chrome and Edge browsers, both cannot connect to websites.

I am perplexed. Any ideas?

Try TCP/IP reset and then flush DNS after the reset.

Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator
Then  netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Also, ipconfig /flushdns followed by net stop dnscache followed by net start dnscache
Then restart the computer

John Hurst: Tried all these but no improvement on the situation.
Set up a new, test, Windows User Profile (Account). Log into the new Windows Account and test.  Does this help.

OK, we might be nearer to the solution. I used another user account to log on and it worked fine (web access and suchlike)

Went back into the original faulty account and still had the problem.

OK. They have re-directed folders for My documents and suchlike. If I delete the account then re-create it will the redirected folders data be affected?
You need to make sure the document and other are securely stored on the server. Then re-create the account. You should be able to set up redirection but you may need to recover the documents. Be sure they are safely backed up.

Thanks. We're going to arrange to back up his documents area then re-create the account.
