Adding UPN Suffix to a Domain Office 365 prep

Right now we are in the process of migrating to office 365.

We have a domain with a non-routeable domain name contoso.local

During the migration we found out we need a routeable domain name.

This link tells us how to add a nice new routeable suffix to our domain. Then we change over to using that suffix.
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/How-to-prepare-a-non-routable-domain-such-as-local-domain-for-directory-synchronization-e7968303-c234-46c4-b8b0-b5c93c6d57a7

If we do this what about all the servers we have on the old .local suffix will the users still be able to access the fileservers or local web apps and DNS. What about the DHCP server? How would it effect that as well.

There are a number of considerations I would assume. Or an I being overly paranoid? I don't want to throw a wrench into a domain that is working well.

If anyone could shed some light, "that would be greeeeeat!" (office space jk)

You can edit multiple users in the same OU and update the UPN suffix in one shot.  Just select all the users, right click, properties...
