Lenovo 3550 M5

I am trying to install VMWare Hypervisor 5.5 on a Lenovo 3550 M5 using the Ilo Remote Control function and I was trying to mount the file using Virtual Media Mounted from URL but the max disk space is only 50M.  The iso file is about 350MB.  I tried boot it directly from an external USB CD/DVD drive about it kept giving a media error so I was trying to go this route and see that there is an issue with it maxing out at 50MB.  I was going to a IMM advanced license to upgrade this but doesn't look like that will do any good due to the max disk space.

The file I was trying to install is  VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201501001-2403361.x86_64.iso.

Any suggestions on how I can load this without getting any error?

Take a look at the following video for detailed steps of how to install an operating system using the IMM virtual media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l6cx5cDMx0

Hi Richardson,

Thanks for the URL.  This is a license that I need to get in order to run it:

Lenovo Vendor Extended Warranty 90Y3901 Integrated Management Module Advanced

thanks,
Ok, I was able to get the IMM to load the iso file and now I get this error while the ESXi is installing:

Failed to resolve circular relocation

Any suggestions?  I googled this and this might be a memory issue but not sure how to fix this.  Note that I am remote to the system and just have access via IMM.

thanks,LN
Not that when I reboot and go into F12 to select the boot option, I don't see the IMM boot option as displayed in the Youtbue video.  I chose CD/DVD and it seems to be the ESXi install just fine and under my Virtual Media option, my iso file is mapped to CD/DVD.  The option's wording under the boot menu is a little different.

thanks
Note*
Your error is very similar with the issue related on the following KB: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/tkb/articleprintpage/tkb-id/sx01_eg@tkb/article-id/9

The solution is:

Select the following two (2) settings in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI):

  • System Settings/Devices and I/O ports/PCI 64-Bit Resource Allocation to Disabled.
  • System Settings/Devices and I/O ports/MM Config Base memory window to 3 GB
.
Ok, how do I run UEFI? The memtest didn't work.
You should restart the server and type the value for enter in the setup (sometimes called BIOS and/or UEFI). Can't remember the exact value, but I think is F2.
Sorry, the correct value is F1, see:

User generated image
Ok, I went into F1 and can go to the setup settings and see different options, including listing the UEFI driver..etc and listing all current settings.  If I choose memory, it just shows me what is installed.

Also, there was an option at bootup for me to run Diagnostics and I choose that and ran a quick full memory test and re-ran the ESXI installer and I get the same error.

Not sure what else I need to do get to this :

Select the following two (2) settings in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI):
System Settings/Devices and I/O ports/PCI 64-Bit Resource Allocation to Disabled.
System Settings/Devices and I/O ports/MM Config Base memory window to 3 GB
After on enter on setup, what option you have if you go to System Setting ---> Devices and I/O ports  ?

Any chance you post a print-screen ?
Ok, I found the settings that you recommended for I/O..etc and changed it and that seemed to make it work.

The ESXi5.5 installer went fine using the Lenovo iso file for ESXi and it is not finding any Storage Device.  I had Windows 10 installed but I believe those are the built in hard drive.  Why doesn't it see any location or remote Storage Device?

It says none for either Local or Remote..

thanks
Within the Lenovo IMM tool, I can see the Local Storage and it shows a Serve RAID in PCI Slot 4 with two drives of 930GB each.

I think it is the ESXi Installer that isn't recognizing the Raid controller?  I tried the original ESX i iso file and it is not seeing any local or remote storage device either.

Any suggestions at this point?
Attached is the ESXi installer snapshot and also the IMM Local Storage snapshot.

As you can see, there are local storage devices but the installer doesn't see it.
Are you using the ESXi ISO installer, e.g. downloaded from Lenovo ?

download link I first posted ?

otherwise this means ESXi is not compatible with your server.

Hi LateNate, are you able to install the ESXi after download the customized Lenovo image ? Let us know if you need further help.
Need any more help with this question, to allow you to close out ?
The issue was with the switch security on the port that prevented additional mac addresses to be seen.
