HI Mike,

That info would be helpful..

We are using BES5 with Exchange 2010

I've inherited the server so i actually don't know when
To reinstall i don't have SRP details - how can i get this info without the admin console?

I found an article from Blackberry but i can't get the second part
http://support.blackberry.com/kb/articleDetail?articleNumber=000002632
OK, so if you've inherited the server, I think it's fair to say that it has been working in the past but isn't working now. Would you agree? So, when did the server stop working? Has anything changed on the server? I'm guessing either a Java update or some Windows Updates. Can you take a look and see when the last changes were made?

Thanks,

Mike

Fair to say , its been working in the past, just not in the past few days

Java was updated which i have rolled back, i have checked the registry to make sure it matches to the current version installed 6.31
last time any windows updates have been applied were 23/06
Hi Deepin,

I appreciate that you've already followed a BlackBerry KB article and checked the registry. Can you quickly check this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BlackBerryWebServices\Parameters\JVM Library

In there should be a path to a jvm.dll file on the local machine. Can you confirm that the EXACT path matches the location of the file. For example, if you copy and paste the path into explorer, does it find the file on the local machine?

NOTE: Instead of the BlackBerryWebServices container in the registry, it may also have the containers BAS-AS and BAS-NCC. Check both of those too.

Thanks,

Mike

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BlackBerryWebServices\Parameters\JVM Library
I don't have that location in the registry

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\client\jvm.dll is the path and yes i can see jym.dll in the folder for BAS-AS /BAS-NCC
Hi Deepin,

Just a shot in the dark but has the server run out of disk space? BAS will tend to write logs until it runs out of space then fail to load components.

If it is fine for disk space, please try to restart the BAS-AS service then look for the log files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs

There will be a folder name with today's date that will contain the logs. Look for the two logs that start with BAS-AS and BAS-NCC. If you could post the contents of them (or attach them) then I'll take a look through them.

Mike,

Not sure if if ever did - its a dedicated Bes server with a 100GB C drive only 44Gb used - doubt it did

ermm....there no logs for BAS-AS/BAS-NCC today, i can those files from previous days only
Files from a previous day will be fine.
Thanks Deepin,

I can see some errors that lead me to this article:

http://support.blackberry.com/kb/articleDetail?articleNumber=000032435

Try this and let me know how you get on.

All Blackberry services have started now
That has kept the services started... however i can't access BlackBerry Administration Service web console - cannot display webpage from ie and connnection refused from google chrome
Have a look in the Task Manager and let me know how much memory is in use by the BAS-AS service.

If i try to access the webconsole i have noticed BAS-AS service stops and then starts again

it get's to 226,00k approx then service restarts
Hi Deepin,

Sounds like we are almost there. Can you post one of today's BAS-AS logs for me, please? You may find that multiple logs are now being spawned. Just let me have one of them - but not the last (it may not be a complete log).

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Deepin,

Can you check to make sure the SQL server is running and the Blackberry instance is available?

Thanks

SQL Server (Blackberry) is in a running state and set to startup automatically
Hi Deepin,

It looks like you are going to have to reinstall the BAS component of BES on that machine. The log files point to some serious JNDI errors. If Java is installed correctly and the registry points correctly to the jvm.dll file then reinstalling BAS is your only option.

Do not worry.

This won't kill your BES server or force you to reauthenticate, etc. This is just reinstalling the BAS console. Do you have install media for it? If you do not then you will have to download the latest service pack version from the Blackberry website and do a full upgrade of the BES server.

I've still got the media for BES - is just a matter of next next all the way through the media to repair the install?

Mike,

Just done a reinstall over the top of the current install - not good news. same issue BAS-AS/BAS-NCC services will not start
Hi Deepin,

In that case, update Java and make the necessary changes to the registry to point BAS to the correct location of jvm.dll.

It may be that the update and rollback broke the Java installation.

Mike
Hi Deepin,

Did you update Java?

Hi Mike,

I didn't get a chance yesterday, however just updated java and this has stop BAS-AC/NCC and MDS services now

I've checked the JVM library for all 3 and they are pointing to the correct jvm.dll location

I've uninstalled in latest version of java and reverted back to JR6.45 - JVM Library has been updated and services are now started
Does that mean you are able to log in?

No BAS-AC service still restarting by itself
Ok, can you let me have a copy of the BAS-AS log and the BAS-NCC log from today, please?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I had to reinstall the BES server which resolved the issue.
I appreciate  all your help

FYI - i had the same issue with another client and BES, updating JVM location was the solution but you have to do it in both of the below locations.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet002\Services\

Hi Deepin,

I was trying to avoid going down that route if possible. I feel that it is better to fix them rather than to simply reinstall but I'm glad you got it sorted. (I mentioned a reinstall of BES in my first post :-) )

Mike
