Auto Logon fails when connected to the network Windows 10

When configuring for auto logon, we configure the regitsry as follows: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon...AutoAdminLogon set to: 1      DefaultDomainName: EXCHANGE      DefaultUserName: the specified username      DefaultPassword:  user's password.  We have also tried Sysinternals AutoLogon.  The auto logon never works when connected to the network.  You end up on the logon screen with the username, then a field that shows "enter email address or phone number" and a field for a password.  But if you unplug the network connection and turn off wireless, the PC/laptop will auto logon with no problems.  I assume this must be an issue with authentication??

it works fine when using a static IP.  But when using DHCP, auto logon fails.
It seems that when Wired Auto Config is turned on and the machine is set to User/Computer Authentication, auto logon fails.  When wired autoconfig is turned OFF, auto logon works.

I have the same issue, always have to log in my windows 10 now using my ISP /microsoft account with email never had to prior with windows 7
and it has to do with using Microsoft account instead of local account.,
I dont know about Wired Auto Config  I am on a local wired network but when I first upgraded I noticed my user name had changed at the start menu top to my MS account name.
Apparently that happens when opening the store apps. I tried so many things in the end my password was nolonger accepted and I had to format reinstall windows 7 reinstall all my programs then upgrade again with the same problem I have to log in.
My ISP password is tied to my Microsoft account and Outlook.com.

I installed Logon Expert today and that worked.  But I do not understand why Logon Expert works yet I cannot manually modify the registry as we used to.

We are using Windows 10 Enterprise.  We have sent this issue to Microsoft.  They first said they had the same issues in their lab.  But now they say it is working.  I just do not understand why LogonExpert works, yet manually modifying the registry does NOT work.
We confirmed that auto logon does not work when "user and computer" authentication is used.  It does work with wireless using computer authentication only.  On LAN, using only computer authentication does not work.  Microsoft said this is by design.  We are waiting on a fix from them.
Hi boshenska, thankyou yes I found the same,  it is a major problem and like so many I gave up and have rolled back to windows 7, now the 2nd time..
Windows 10 has too many problems with the same as noted here> local user accounts and Microsoft Account for my liking and since I have already created my media creation tool I can use that to upgrade later on .
Windows 10 Anniversary Update: Watch out for these nasty surprises

W10 failed this PC with that problem  but was successful with my other two. I kept one in W10 rolled the two back.
I even posted my problem to Microsoft as well with no solution. I was locked out when trying to fix the auto log on. Suddenly it wouldn't accept my password.
Windows 10 user passwords with Microsoft Account messes with windows 7 previous accounts

There’s no rush to upgrade, I have since learnt that windows 7 will be around for quite a few years yet with support  till 2020 and windows 10 is the final windows platform apparantly..
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

So I'll wait for those updates /patches or two while Microsoft addresses the bugs and quirks people are uncovering for them.. Messing around with user accounts and passwords has caused me to format twice with a lockout over unrecognized passwords and access denied, cannot enable auto log on etc

Thanks for your update it is puzzling how W10 runs ok on some systems and others seem to be one big headache for others. Problems can disappear overnight.
I believe MS is monitoring in the background and pushing out fixes with new auto windows updates.
My next PC will be an Apple Mac.
Regards Merete
Our call has now been turned over to networking engineers with Microsoft.  The tech was surprised auto logon worked with 7 and we proved it did.  So now we wait to hear from the network support group.
Oh good luck with them, I really would be interested in what they offer.
I wait with anticipation.
Working with another asker here on EE still open.

What does computer authentication mean verses logging in with a local user account verses Logging  in with a Microsoft account
Is this what the new "anniversary" update fixes?
Where a local user account is default to log in with and is automatically changed to a Microsoft Account? causing numerous headaches to the point of many re-installing previous windows to get back those settings?
Strikes me as the main issue with windows 10 the auto login has many facets and problems, the settings are not carried over with the upgrade and it depends if it is windows 7 pro to windows 7 home
