Hi,
I have a hard drive that's bitlocked. when I try to unlock it the process freezes and i need to reboot the server to clear it. I can unencrypt the external hard drive from a laptop but it bitlocks automaticly after its unplugged which is fine. My problem why cant i unlock it from the server? why does the process freeze?
If I connect another external drive I cant access it and if I try to open the external drive the explorer freezes and I have to reboot the server again.
Any idea? Thank you

That other drive, is it bitlocked as well?

Its a brand new drive. It worked when i first plugged it in but after the second time its not bitlocked and i cant access it. I double click on it and nothing happens. Just a green bar going across the top.
You confuse me :) Does connecting drives fail in general or only with bitlocked drives?

Both cannot be accessed. Bitlocked or not. I used different USB ports and the same problem
Dos your server have both USB3 and USB2 ports? Sometimes USB3 have problems while USB2 don't. Try the slower USB2 for a test. There are some problems with microsoft's own USB3 XHCI driver seen on certain mainboards.

I tried all USB ports and I am getting the same problem
But does it have two sorts of ports (or just one sort)? If so, which sort? (or name the mainboard if you don't know)

it has both 2.0 and 3.0 and it worked perfectly until 2 weeks ago. Maybe its the group policy?
There's no GPO setting that would have such results.

The usb drivers are normally those that windows brings with it, so repairing those would mean to repair windows with for example an inplace upgrade (start windows setup from with your running windows - select to keep applications, files and settings).

I now do not think its a bitlocker issue.
When I plugin any external hard drive the server does not read it at all. It shows me the drive but i cant open it and i dont see the details of the hard drive. Mouse and keyboard are working perfectly and i tried moving the external hard drive to a different USB and still the same issue. any ideas?

Not yet. I don't know when I can load the Server into safe mode, but i am going to try other methods and as a last resort I will try safe mode.

After removing Bitlocker I can now read USB drives. hmm weird
