I am also a basement tinkerer. This project is actually for fun and involves out entire team at work. A few of us know how to solder (not including me) so it is slow going.
So far the video looks good!
I also want to dabble in arduino, just waiting until my budget allows the expense.

I am fairly adept at soldering. You can get a beginning electronics book at a local bookstore that will help you. I need to solder lots of stuff together.
