Windows RDS Farm

Hi all,

I am new in setting up RDS Farm and need some high level advise for direction to setup the user environment.

We plan to publish SAP FAT client.  From my knowledge, users will run reports and work on them.

What is the best practice as for setting up save repository for documents?  How do I setup so users can save to their local C and local network mapped drives?  If I setup folder redirection for folder such as documents, I am afraid IT will get a lot of calls from users about locating their documents when they sign off the RDS farm app.

Please advise.

Thanks,

If you set global folder redirection (both on the PC as well as the RDS farm), how can users have trouble locating their files?
Mapped network drives is still a viable route to take (easier to backup the file server, than to backup all user pc's).
Can you please elaborate on the pitfalls you foresee? Because honestly, I can't. Describe in which situation you think it will cause a problem?

Thanks.  No pitfalls.  If we redirect the document folder to a centralized location, we just have to notify the users so they know.

We test published Notepad.  When I click File>Open, I only see the C drive on my local computer.  I do not see other network mapped drives.

Any idea of where to look?

Thanks,

If the My Documents folder is set for everyone, no matter where they log in, it's always there. No real need to tell the users.
If you set up folder redirection correctly, there's no mapped network drive. It's just My Documents where you always expected it to be (people can't see it clearly it's a redirected network drive, unless they dive in deeper).
Obviously, setting other mapped network drives (for instance for department groups), is just setting up another GPO, or use a start up batch file per user/group/org.
