User migrated to Office 365 still has on on premise mailbox

A user was migrated to Office 365 from on premise Exchange 2003 and Hybrid 2010. The user accesses the email from Office 365 but I need to get the old mailbox off the server so I can decommission the sever. How do I do this without deleting the Office 365 mailbox. I am unable to map the Office 365 mailbox in my outlook to export all the mail as a PST and start over.

Um, if you have done Hybrid migration, the user should not have an on-prem mailbox anymore. It should be a mail user instead. So maybe provide us with the details on the actual migration?

I wasn't in this position when the migration was done. I agree. There should not be a local mailbox but there is. It is a hybrid setup. I am trying to get rid of all the old mailboxes and retire all on premise exchange servers except the hybrid 2010 server which is needed to manage the office 365 accounts since we do AD synchronization.
Well if I'd have to guess, my approach would be to backup/export the local mailbox to a PST file then convert it to a mail user. Make sure to also stamp its targetaddress with the user@tenant.mail.onmicrosoft.com address.
