Dreamweaver CS6, (DW).
Assisting a friend in editing a website.
Downloaded website to mac using DW, edited a page, saved it and put in on the server. It's there, I've checked.
But when I go into the website using firefox, google or safari I get the error message.
Did a google and it comes up with changing Dispatcher. Couldn't find any reference to that anywhere

Two things. Some ftp servers do not automatically set permission to allow the file to viewed. Set permissions to '644' for normal HTML files. And Linux/Apache web servers are case sensitive. If you change the case of even one letter, the file name is considered a different file.

Sorry it's pointed out that original question was not entirely correct.
What I did was change a page, saved with a different name, uploaded it and that's when I get the error msg.
Also after the changes, saved the file, no changes to name, viewed it in DW to make sure it was showing changes, which it did. Uploaded it, but when viewed on website, the original page shows without changes.
When I open the page in DW from Remote Server, it shows the changes. Somehow the original page is still there somewhere. Is it cached?
I have no idea

Browsers cache almost everything which can make it difficult to see updates. In Firefox, press Ctl-F5 to force a refresh from the server. That will get a new copy of the main file. It doesn't always get new copies of JavaScript and CSS files.

Tried the refresh, but still the original page shows.

Also I've noticed that the site has a unusual directory structure. Unlike others I've worked on where the root directory has the html pages listed below it, this one has a structure as per the attached.
The html pages are in the www/htdocs directory
I wonder if this was a wordpress site.

That's not related to Wordpress. Wordpress will use whatever structure you have. I see at the top that you're on a Mac Mini.
I also see an 'ftp' directory. Did you upload the file to that directory? Maybe it needs to be moved to the 'htdocs' directory?

Copied ftp to htdocs, uploaded, no change.
Very frustrating isn't it?

It's not a problem that I have ever had. I'm thinking we're missing something.

I've found something.
If I type in the website IP address in the address line in firefox the home page appears.
Click on the page I've changed and it's there with all the changes.
Hope this helps in some way

That says to me that everything is working fine. How were you checking it before?

The ip address is 205.212.176.7 & the site is hiretowers.co.nz.
Using hiretowers.co.nz & then clicking on scissor lifts it shows under battery a 12 metre scissor
Using the ip & then clicking on scissor lifts the 12 metre scissor has gone. That's 1 of the changes.
Somewhere the changed page gets to the ip but not the site.

The IP for hiretowers.co.nz is 202.124.241.203 when I look it up, not 205.212.176.7 .

I tried that ip and got the 404 error. The ip 205 etc is the ftp server address where DW uploads to.
I've tried using ftp.hiretowers.co.nz as the ftp site but doesn't like it. Get the password/login is incorrect.

The 404 error is likely because they are using 'name based' hosting which means that IP address serves more than one web site and you can only get there by name, not by IP address. That is fairly common, saves on IP addresses. The FTP address does Not have to be the same as the web site. All those are management details for the hosting company to make work.

Of course when people go to hiretowers.co.nz they won't see the changes
