Dropdown List for Webpage on my Joomla Website

HI

I would like to create a drop down list (which I have) and depending on the selection I would like certain items to appear in a second dropdown list. Finally, when the user picks the item from the second list I would like it to display a link to the file.

The list is not large, so no need for a database. I am thinking this should be done by Java script or maybe PHP since it is Joomla based website. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Regards

What you're looking for is called a "dependent drop-down" or a "conditional fields display" and it's a common design pattern.  I looked for examples, but most of them are very old (it was a popular topic in 2010) and the Joomla examples may be out of date.  Some of the examples use MySQL which has been gone from PHP for quite a while.  TL;DR: This looked like a good place to start.

The author is looking for a dependent drop-down.  The author is using Joomla.  The link here is to the Joomla forums, where it teaches how to create a dependent drop-down.

I don't know what the process is to find enough information to confirm an answer but the answer is right there in the forum, with links to other explanations and code samples that build the design pattern, so I think the question is pretty well answered.
