You use WinZip (the application) to add favourites, but favourites can be what you wish.

All,
Bill's link mentions:
The first time you activate the Favorite Zip Folders window, it will automatically search your computer for folders containing or likely to contain Zip files. You can easily add and remove folders from your list of "Favorite Zip Folders" using the Options button.
Accordingly,
1. Does this "automatic search" relate to the window with the radio button Search entire hard disk...
2. if so, I'm wondering if you guys are referring to the same "Favorite" list that I had in mind: I ask b/c I've already populated this list with folders from other projects.
Thanks!
Steve
John
WinZip Favourites are done the way we showed you. Windows Favourites are different. The two are not the same.
John, OK. So I assume you're saying the Favorties option I noted in the previous screenshot is per WinZip and not Windows, right? (It would have to be, since the folders therein are different.)
That said, I'm puzzled why I was prompted to "search my entire hard disk", considering I've already established apx. 10 favorites. (Obviously I used to know how to do this, but my gray matter has forgotten it.. ;) )
Thanks.
John
Yes the Favourites in my screen shot above is how it works. You can control what file extension you are looking for and do Quick instead of full hard drive.
Go to Options and you can control the range of files you wish to search. Explore Options as that is what you were looking for, I think.

i wonder if there's a way to tell it "Add my current folder to the favorites list"? That way, it doesn't have to do any searching...Thanks.
OK. I'll try your instructions again later. Thanks!

@John,
OK, I added the folder. (I had to click Options in the outer Favorites window in your original screenshot.
However, I can't figure out where I can access this favorites list. The one I mentioned above does not contain the added folder. But, the contents look different from my normal Windows favorites. So, wondering if there's a third location to click on here that I'm missing...
Thanks,
Steve

But, the contents look different from my normal Windows favorites. So, wondering if there's a third location to click on here that I'm missing...
Of course the favourites look different because they are two entirely different systems. The WinZip favourites are only for WinZip files. The options relate to what is in favourites already and WinZip favourites are entered by searching and adding / excluding what you want / don't want.
I think to your question above, if you add and then search again, it should appear.
Nope. Still does not appear. I apologize b/c I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. :) So, I've just shut down WinZip and restarted. What is the sequence of keystrokes to navigate to my Favorites list?
I don't care if this particular folder has no ZIP files: it's the subfolders below "FREELANCE" that have the ZIP files. I just need a quick way to jump to "FREELANCE". Thans.
John
I will have to bail out. You are mixing apples and oranges and I cannot help. WinZip Favourites work for me but they do not include Windows favourites and never have. Sorry.

No worries. I'll keep trying. Thanks for your efforts, John. :)
it seems that it works as follows. (Correct me if I'm wrong).
1. Suppose I designate two folders as favorites. (a) FREELANCE (b) MARKETING.
2. WinZip can then LIST all ZIP files in those folders only.
However, that's not what I need.
I need to click on "something" that will list FREELANCE and MARKETING. Nothing else. I can then navigate to either of those folders and do whatever I wish. (Create a new ZIP file, extract files from a downloaded ZIP file, etc. etc.). I hope this explanation is clearer than what I've provided to date. Thanks.
John
One last gasp.
I designate two folders as favorites. (a) FREELANCE (b) MARKETING. WinZip can then LIST all ZIP files in those folders only.
That is precisely the way WinZip works.
However, that's not what I need. I need to click on "something" that will list FREELANCE and MARKETING. Nothing else
What you want is not provided in WinZip. WinZip works the first way above.
So you cannot do what you want.

Thank you, John, for your persistence in helping me! :)
Let me revisit my favorites (Windows) when I'm NOT in WinZip. It could be the folder I need is not there, even though I think it is. Will get back to you.
You are trying to combine Windows and WinZip. You can put a ZIP file in a WinZip favourite folder or remove a file and WinZip will see the results. But the 2 things Windows Explorer and WinZip are not integrated from a favourites point of view.

Understood. But, in that case, what "Favortes" folder is this (from WinZip)?
John
Favourite folders in WinZip are Windows folders that you have marked as Favourite in WinZip. It is simpler than you are making it.
1. I require the root folder for my client to be in my favorites, because I need to deal with zip files in subfolders below it.
2. To "nudge" WinZip in the right direction, i copied one of these ZIP file into the root folder for my client. Now, when I go to FILE ---> FAVORITES (of course, we're talking WinZIp favorites, not Windows favorites :) ), I see (with part of folder name redacted).
3. However, when I look at the WinZip favorties list by clicking on: I do not see my client's folder.
I think I'm getting close, now that I've pushed past my own confusion about WHICH favorites folder we're talking about. Next step?
Thanks!
John
Did you specifically add the Folder above in Options? I add my folders in Options, and then they show up in Favourites. I have tested this part over and over again.
OK, I clicked options. Which brought me to THIS screen. I clicked Add a folder to list.
But that option does not apply: all it does is allow me to add a new folder.
Clicking OK does not help either.
It seems that all I need is to for the folder on the right to "jump" to the list on the left, as denoted by the green arrow, but I can't get it to happen...
Thanks!
John
You cannot add a folder by pointing to it or dragging it.
You must have a ZIP file in the folder you are adding or it won't add.
If you have (I have) an arbitrary folder with a zip file in the folder, I can add it by browsing in the Options screen.

Yep, I have a ZIP file in that folder. I did not mean I'd literally drag the folder; the arrow was just to indicate that I would like the Pulse... folder displayed within the Options screen to be added to the Favorites panel on the left.
If that functionality's not possible, maybe we're talking about two different "flavors" of favorites within WinZip? Thanks.
Further info that I should have posted in the original question:
My version of WinZip = 19.5 (11475) 64-bit. The latest copyright date = 2015.
Thanks.
John
You should ask someone to assist you. I cannot. What you want to do works fine for me and I have listed all the steps several times here. WinZip V19 will work as well although I am using V20.5
Thanks, John. Will do. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something silly like mis-matched versions. :)
Have a good weekend.

Ok, I tried upgrading from the WinZip application. It took me to a screen which seemed to include my Licence Number. However, when I clicked to proceed, nothing happened.
Do I have to pay for upgrade from 19.5 to 20.5?
I want to be sure I'm on the most current version before asking for further help.
Thanks,
Steve
John
I have an annual maintenance contract with WinZip and I get upgrades for "free", but without a contract, yes, there is a cost to upgrade.
Thanks, John. I emailed them for help to see if I'm registered.
Stephen Kairys

OK, my ABOUT screen displays a Registration Number. However, when I click Check for Updates it tells me there are no updates available. Which is wrong b/c I'm at only 19.5.
John
You have to go to WinZip , purchase the upgrade and then get a new license. WinZip will not do this via the app update facility .
OK, not worth it to spend the $$$ at this point. I'm about to go on vacation so will get back to this issue when I return on 8/22. Thanks.

Confirming my prev. comment: WinZip did say they'd charge me for the upgrade, although I seem to recall they offered me a discount. I'll send out a Request for Attention soon to see if anyone else can assist. Thanks.
