Viewing remote folder via UNC, disconnecting and refreshing

I have a folder on a 2008 server that's published for sharing, and I can browse to it from my windows 7 workstation via UNC path.
However, after getting to it, it blanks out, says I'm disconnected, then refreshes and reloads.
It keeps doing it like multiple times in a row, so I cannot maintain a persistent connection.

It does not happen with any other folder on the server I connect to.
It's like \\server\c$\folder1 that does it
no other folder is doing it.

Is it a permission issue or something? recent update?

yeah it worked, then I went back to the original way and it started working again.
Another admin was logged in at the time so something strange was going on I think.
