Hi All,

we are planned to migrate our existing Exchange 2010 from physical servers to Dell virtual machine.Below are the existing setup.

Active directory--2nos
Mailbox in DAG--2nos
CAS -2nos
mailboxes--aprox 1000
operating system 2008 R2.

I need to migrate the same setup to the new environment, but i dont want to do with p2v model.

Kindly suggest any other solution with minimum down time.

Note:existing storage:HP and new storage DELL.

If you don't want to p2v then I would create the VM servers as new servers and join them to the existing domain. This will have the physical and virtual systems running in tandem. Setup the virtual systems as the primary points for exchange (incomign emails, client access, etc).

You can then migrate mailboxes over to the new exchange servers from the existing physical systems as though you would any other exchange migration. Once all mailboxes are moved over just decommission and remove the physical systems.

Download Exchange2010 SP3 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36768
Install new exchange server. I hope you already have a GC/DC in the new site.

Install RU 14 after that https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52766  (Optional but recommened by MS)

Configure virtual directories and install certificate using this article

Move all mailboxes to the new server.
if you want to move by batch use the below command.
Get-Mailbox -Database “Source Database Name” " -ResultSize Unlimited | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “Target Database Name”

Move arbitration/system mailboxes
Get-Mailbox -arbitration | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “Target Database Name”

Check this for details http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000864

Move pubic folder

Configure CAS array and point your databases to the CAS array. Create an A record points which points to the new CAS server. (Optional but recommened by MS).

Configure OAB distribution

Change your NAT to the new server in Firewall/Router.

Shutdown the old exchange server for couple of days and monitor. If all working fine decommission the old server.
