I have HP thin clients devices but it only has RDP 6. After I installed KB?????084 update, it has upgraded into version 7. However, it still does not support NLA. I do not want to change server setting to remove the NLA enforcement. What can I do to upgrade the client to use NLA ? Thank you very much!

i found the following at Wikipedia by searching for RDP and NLA:

Network Level Authentication was introduced in RDP 6.0 and supported initially in Windows Vista. It uses the new Security Support Provider, CredSSP, which is available through SSPI in Windows Vista. With Windows XP Service Pack 3, CredSSP was introduced on that platform and the included RDP 6.1 Client supports NLA; however CredSSP must be enabled in the registry first.[1]

i hope that helps.

Hi Sara,

I don't see the credssp.dll anywhere in the system. It is an embedded version of XP. The HDD is around 1GB only. Any idea ?

the support for Windows xp has ended but MS offers a fix:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/951608

if you want to fix it yourself, you have to use regedit and navigate to the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

then add the value

    tspkg

to entry Security Packages

then add the value

    credssp.dll

to entry SecurityProviders

note, the credssp.dll should have been provided by the SP3 update. you may search with

dir /s credssp.dll

from c:\ in a dosbox. if it doesn't exist the update seemed to be incomplete or there is a restriction for embedded Systems i don't know of. you could try to get the dll from a desktop xp and put it to system32 folder.
