Run a rebuild index.

To rebuild the catalog, follow these steps:

    Exit Outlook.
    Open the Indexing Options. ...
In the Indexing Options dialog box, click Modify, click to clear the check box next to Outlook,            click OK.
In the Indexing Options dialog box, click Advanced.
In the Advanced Options dialog box, click Rebuild.
    Click OK.

If rebuilding the index as suggested doesn't work, try re-creating your profile.  Make a backup of your .PST first of course.

actually the first answer led me to the right area.  I was not given the option of rebuilding but when i was in the indexing area i noticed that some of my very large external back up drives had become included in the indexing cue.  I wondered if that was bogging down the system.  i removed them from the indexing options and now it is working again.  Thanks

Another thing to note with Outlook 2010 is the search will reform different results with owa and outlook.
