Some hosting service providers say their website and email hosting service are only cpanel based servers, thus can only synchronize emails but not calendars and contacts across multiple mobile devices. They would recommend using either office 365, Google app for work as a workaround.
is there any reviews on which of these collaboration services would be a better option?

It depends on your needs and what devices you have in use. Office 365 works quite well from my experience. I have not had a good experience with Google Apps, since their administrative interface is poorly designed and difficult to manage in comparison with Office 365. They are comparably priced if you consider that the Office 365 subscription that Google Apps is most similar to is the Business Standard license (At $5 per user per month for both). At that subscription level, Office 365 and Google Apps offer Web Based Office apps (Excel, Word, etc.), online document storage (OneDrive vs. Google Drive), and email. However, Exchange online has many more features, even at the lower subscription level, that Google doesn't offer. The biggest difference, to me, is that Google Apps charges the same price for all mailboxes in your environment, while Office 365 allows free use of Resource Mailboxes (For room and equipment scheduling) and Shared Mailboxes (Mailboxes that multiple users access, like the itsupport@company.com mailbox that many IT departments would have) without additional charges.
