cannot use quickbooks payroll in multi user mode

2 people work in Quickbooks 2015 in multi user mode, when 1 of them needs to use the payroll feature the other person has to get out of quickbooks.

From what I have read we should be able to be in multi user mode and have a single person be in payroll, correct?

Any suggestions?

No, not correct. One user can be in Payroll and the other user not. I do this all the time. Multi User works fine. There are specific functions (Sales tax comes to mind) the require Single User mode. But in general you can do payroll while the other works on other accounting activities.

We are agreeing on what I think should happen, but it's not allowing 1 person in payroll and the other doing other accounting tasks.  In our case we have to have the person, not performing payroll, get out of Quickbooks

Copy the QB data file to the main local machine, open QuickBooks, File, Utilities, Rebuild and all the data file to be rebuilt. All QB should be / must be closed while doing this.

When done, copy the rebuilt data file back to the server machine.

Now open the Main QuickBooks. Close any company files. Now use the main File window in the center to navigate to the data file (do not use Recent). Open the file and now switch to Multi User Mode.  Open the Payroll center (but no functions).

Now open the other QuickBooks, Close any company files. Now use the main File window in the center to navigate to the data file (do not use Recent). Open the file.

Does it open?
