Out of Office Issue
Hello,
We have an on premise Exchange 2013 system and use Outlook 2013.
We are having an issue where folks that are connected to a VPN and using Outlook on their desktop cannot set an Out of Office message, MailTips also fails, but I suspect they are tied together.
The failure states: Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailble. Try again later.
In the network everything works fine, using Outlook web app also works. It only seems to effect those that use a VPN to connect to our network.
Just looking for anything I can try to resolve it
Thank you

Normally, if owa will work but it doesn't work try delete the out of office rule using mfcmapi.
I done several cases

with Internal network this is achieved via the auto discover feature where the client queries SCP through Active Directory.
When it tries to connect via an external network this query has to made possible using DNS pointed to the autodiscover URLS.
have you tried creating a DNS record for your autodiscover ?

Outlook wont find autodiscover via scp in the VPN enviornment.
also check if autodiscover.domain.com resolves to your CAS.

Thank you all for the replies
Here are each of your responses:
David Sankovsky - OWA works just fine, I've read a rogue update in the past, not sure if it holds true this time
suriyaehnop - Im not sure i want to take this route yet and i think you may be assuming OWA does not work. OWA does work and allows you to set an out of office
John Christopher - I think you are on the right track , DNS makes sense. However i dont know how to create a DNS record for autodiscover, i better research that. Yes, autodiscover.domain.com does resolve one of my CAS servers.
