Shopping for a batery for my Lenovo T530.  I see some OEM Lenovo 6-cell listed as 4400mAh capacity and other Generic/Unbranded at 5200mAh capacity.  Exampled below from eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Cell-Battery-for-Lenovo-T430-T530-W530-L430-L530-57Y4186-42T4791-T430I-T530I-/261875800387?hash=item3cf9039943:g:s8UAAOSwJcZWe5EK

Why do they have different capacities with same Voltage?  Do they use different cell type batteries?

Please advice.

Batteries can be made differently inside to provide greater capacity for a given voltage. That is entirely normal.

If you wish to use an after market battery for your Lenovo, make very sure it is warranty approved. If not, the charging identification circuit may not work and the battery may not last as long as you think it should. I get 2.5 to 3 years out a battery in constant use.

If it's a Lenovo it will give you what is claimed.

After-market ones might be inflating their figures a little.  It is common practice with Chinese battery manufacturers to do this.

As a general rule, the more cells in a battery then the more charge it will hold.  Or longer life.  Note that the voltage does not change, only the charge.

Yes, they have different cell battery inside and also different number of cells, in your case 6 or 9.

When you shop on Ebay and the batteries come from China, you may risk counterfeits.
If it is cheap enough for you and you do not cry for the money spent and is OK for 1-2 years then you may buy it.
Keep in mind that even if they say original, genuine battery and you see printed Lenovo, they can still be copies.
My personal experience with Lenovo and Toshiba notebooks is different using non-branded batteries. I had situations when the battery was dead after 6 months (was cheap, around 20€) and also situations when lasted more than 2 years without problems. It is hard to say how will be your case because can be anything inside. Usually a branded Lenovo battery, Chinese type from Ebay, even if it is not original, was good enough for me during the last 3 years and it was 50% of a original one. It may be not your case.
If you want genuine battery from Lenovo, then be ready to pay the price for it, but of course you may rely on the quality for the next 3 years, at least.

As others have said, cheap batteries from Ebay are often dodgy. The OEM one might say 4400mAh, but run for twice as long as the cheap one labelled 5200mAh.

I too have seen some that die after a few months of use. Often there is a reason why they are cheap.

The higher mAh the long lasting of the battery use time,

voltage have to me the same all always but mAh may vary representing different battery performance.

the more cells the more energy. (thus more time without being plugged to the wall).
