I need to create a simple text banner to use as a png overlay for my videos.
I want it to have text...
And a gradient ribbon background to the text that fades to transparent on each end

Start a new Photoshop session.
The background layer you can turn off by setting opacity to 0%
Add a new layer, fill in your text.
Add a Layer Mask (pixel mask), then with the gradient tool, apply the mask so that the letters fade.
Save as PNG, done.
