Sounds Issue on Dell Laptop

I have a machine that is not outputting sound through the speakers or through the docking station.  Additionally it will produce sound through the headphones jack but the sound level is not controllable through the control panel, only via individual programs.  In essence what I am saying is if the sound is turned all the way down or all the way up the level never changes.  Any ideas on problems?

Are you using the correct driver for the sound card?

Check if you need to update the driver from dell site below

There was a Windows Update that took care of this sound issue.
