I read everything...this is vitally important to me. I have ten remote offices where they have implemented usb external hdd as target repositories for Veeam to reduce iops. with this current info it makes me rethink that deployment because now essentially it could be unstable.<br />

Rebooting the host worked...so i got lucky on this one!

What you are doing is not supported, and if it works, you are lucky.<br />

Maybe a NAS connected to network would be better, USB I/O is also slow!

I have had several usb devices {hdds} plugged into the esxi host and we removed all but one. Now all of a sudden it disappeared and I cannot add it back in vm settings. I have unplugged it and powered it off, replugged back to the host still nothing. any ideas?<br />
