It is a network. Server 2012 R2 Server. Windows 7 Professional workstations. The shortcuts on the desktops for programs ran on the server are blank. I know this has always been a problem but this time refreshing the desktop and/or right clicking on the shortcut and Change Icon don't work. When you right click and "Change Icon" the correct icon is shown but it won't update the shortcut.

Try to manually rebuild the Icon Cache using the Command Prompt

1. Save and close your are work. This procedure will restart the computer when you are done.

2. Open a command prompt..

3. In the command prompt, Copy and paste each command line below exactly as is one at a time and press enter after each command.

NOTE: The last command will restart the computer.
•ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
•taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
•DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A
•DEL "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*" /A
•shutdown /r /f /t 00
4. The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.
