iPhone erratic behavior with Exchange accounts - iOS 9 and higher

We are using Exchange 2010 with latest updates.  A variety of iPhone clients are experiencing erratic mail issues including severe mail delivery delays, and new mail counters not reflecting the actual count, mail deleted from phone not deleted from the server, etc.

An Internet article describing similar events:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7238141?tstart=0

Anyone have insight on a solution or are we at Apple's continued mercy?

Many thanks.

Hi synetron,

I wrote an article that covers a broad base of questions with related problems to yours.  There are a few suggestions here that I recommend you try and see if they help resolve your problem.  For example, I suggest starting with Restarting the device, delete the account or a combination of both.  Other possible solutions are covered in the article.
