What steps need to be taken to set up a network location server when there is just the Windows server 2012 R2 essentials server?
An article that lists the steps in a clear fashion would be great to read and follow, if it exists.

What do you mean by "Network Location Server" and "just a Server 2012"?

With one, single server, set up the server as Domain Controller (DC) with Active Directory (AD) and let it be the DHCP and DNS server - all this in one. Outsource Exchange and Email.

Probably (95%), install a switch, then a VPN router, then your cable or DSL modem. Use the VPN router for access and effectively outsource access from software to hardware (VPN router). Easier to manage.

If you have never done this before, get a competent consultant to set it up for you. 1 day to do a basic setup .
