mc9090 problem with pocket internet explorer

We have multiple MC9090s used for mobile warehouse management. the WMS runs in a web browser so it is accessed though pocket internet explorer.
Because there seems to be a remembered user and password on the device and the user and password is unknown the device will not access the main intranet web page. Therefore the devices are useless.  When you go to the page you get " database log in failed", "an invalid username\password caused log in to the database to fail, verify the username and password." But there is no way to do so. I have Googled my fingers to the bone for a week and am through. Guess I will toss them in the trash.
The software vendor says its not their fault (of coarse) but never the less I have two useless mc9090 devices.
its a matter of time until employees figure out that all they have to do is enter a bogus password and click remember and the devices are rendered useless. They will say:"I cant do my job, IT cant get the scanners working, we will be outside smoking cigarettes if you figure it out"
clearing cache, cookies, temp files etc... does not help. Anybody know how to fix these? I don't know how to set them back to factory. a cold boot doesn't do it.

1 Solution

KimputerCommented:
Try removing regkeys in the
HKCU\system\Credentials\Type\2\ regions (try subkeys as well)
Reboot, then connect again, hopefully a prompt will appear.

sorry, but I don't have a clue how to do that.

First you have to install one of the free regedit programs out there. Then start it, navigate to the Hotkey_current_user etc key, and start deleting the keys.

Cant seem to find a site that has it that doesn't want to "install lots of free software" with it.
you know the kind where the license agreement says you give them permission to do whatever they want with your computer and information. bummer...

finally got it. ran install, now what? cant find instructions? don't know what to do.
how do you get it on the device or do you?

KimputerCommented:
One option, copy the .cab file onto the device and run it on the device to install the app.
Option two, use the MSI installation on a PC, but have the device connected through USB to the PC (and have it correctly synced). During the installation, it will push the app to the device.

do i run all 11 cab files?

please be specific because it greek to me.

There's something wrong. after you copy it to the device, If you click a .cab file on the device itself, it shouldn't unpack it, it should start an installation procedure.
Do you know exactly what the OS version is? (WM5/WM6?etc)

donrbrowningAuthor Commented:
wm5.0
got it installed after clicking on all 11 cab files Yea!!!
now cant find reg keys mentioned at beginning.
i think i'll just smash devices with a hammer.
i only have many hours (over 8) in trying to trouble shoot this.
at some point it becomes cheaper to buy new ones.
starting to sense my frustration yet?

Following the registry trail, where does it stop?

If HKCU\system\Credentials\Type\ exists
but HKCU\system\Credentials\Type\2 doesn't, then list what IS listed instead.

donrbrowningAuthor Commented:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SYSTEM\
AND THATS IT----EMPTY EXCEPT FOR hkcu\syste\state

Wow, talk about setbacks.

We'll turn to a full reset then (not desired solution, still the best available):
Go to http://kimputer.is-a-geek.com/files/pocket/ again, there's one new file.
Unpack on the PC, read the readme.txt file for the steps you need to take.

i had to send the now three MC9090s out to be re flashed. above my skill level and time to play with these silly things.
Re flashing the units is really not a solution. there has to be a way to fix these without re loading everything. Thats like a spark plug goes bad and the answer is to rebuild the motor.

Sadly, I see no other way. More people have come across this horrible issue, and MS did NOT build in a way to solve it easily. They built a way to save something, then always use that same entry to connect, with no way to modify it (no way exposed to the user that is, not even programmatically).
