Outlook 2010 Unable to Log Into SMTP Server

Hello Experts,

I was on a wired network connected to the Internet and had no issues with web browsing or email. I have moved and am  now on a 3rd party wireless network. Note that I have a different POP server and SMTP server as my POP server does not allow outgoing mail.

No problems with web browsing or incoming email but Outlook is unable to log on to the SMTP server.

I can log onto the ISPs web mail system with the same credentials as I have stored in Outlook and send mail with no problems. I can ping the mail server (which is mail.tpg.com.au). The technical staff say that they can see my logins when I log in to the web mail system but don't see anything when I try to log in via Outlook.

Any ideas?

Look at the settings on your email server from the your POP hosting platform.

My best guess is they are blocking port 25 and you need to use an alternative like 587 or 2525.

Try a different mail client like Thunderbird and see if it has the same issue.

Switching SMTP from port 25 to port 587 fixed the problem
