Windows 10 ver. 1607 on a 5 year old e-machine will not update.

This system had the same error under Win 7 and Win 10 upgrade and now version 1607.

The PC seems to run well and is clear of malware, plays video.  Have researched several different fixes including  Shut down the 3 services and restarted.  clearing the download folder in Software Distribution,    Ran several Microsoft FixIt's.  And tried the upgrade to 1607 and none of those have made a difference.

When I run "check for updates" it responds with the error message " there has been a problem with installing updates, we'll try again later. error 0x8024002e"

It is possible the machine is past being able to update.  Try the Media Creation Link to reinstall Windows 10 Keeping Everything

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click on Upgrade to Windows 10 (even if Windows 10 is running), click on the Download button, select Open (Run) but NOT Save. Allow the program to run. Allow drivers to update. Then select Keep Everything.
Perhaps you have an overly aggressive AntiVirus program?  Especially if this was occurring pre-update on WIN7 as well!

You might try removing the one you have and using the built-in "Windows Defender" instead...

Try the recommendations at this article to correct:

can you check if your antivirus /internet security software is blocking the update service or not ?
