Full Backup software for Linux

Been a Windows person for many years but I'm crossing over to the other side :)

What are some good backup programs for Linux (Debian if it makes a difference). My need is to backup my entire laptop (image it probably) so I can restore a full restore if I royally screw up (which happens to me)

Ideally a backup program that can run while the system is running (like on Windows I've used Macruim Reflect), but worst case if I have to boot off a USB stick that's still ok.

Something open-source would preferred.

Thanks

Clonezilla is a bare metal restore disk imaging solution.

If you are looking for what is available in terms of backup solutions in general on Linux:

This is just a short list.
CloneZilla as mentioned above for image type backups. But you need to boot to the CD or USB stick with CloneZilla to use it. You can't backup your system while you are using it.

Otherwise you could try out Pinguay builder, it is a tool you can use to create an iso image of the running OS, and then you can burn that image to a DVD and run the OS in liveMode, or install it again if necessary. You can also create a bootable USB stick from it if you don't want to boot from a DVD. There is a limit though, your iso file can't go larger than 4GB as far as I know. It does compress the image, but the disk or partition you are backing up with it can't be too large.
