Encrypted Laptop running Linux

Hello,

I've been a Windows user all my life and using Linux just in VM's, but I'm crossing over to the penguin side and installing Linux as my main OS on my laptop (a specific Debian distro)   :)

Now since this will be my actual laptop with my personal and work stuff on it, I want to encrypt the laptop.

I do see the option in the installer for using LVM Encrypted Partitions but I'm not sure the best way to go about it.

I've found one method here that looks interesting:

and I'm sure if I keep Google'ing I'll find other methods.


Is there a particular guide anyone recommends? Basically I want to just have to enter ONE password when booting up.

But also, in case I once day need to troubleshoot an issue (say my laptop dies and I need to connect my drive to a different system to get data out), I need to make sure I'll be able to access my encrypted partitions.


Any specific advice or a pointer to an easy to follow guide?
