AD and Exchange integration when purchasing a new company

Hi,

We just bought a company of about 100 users. We are 1000 staff large. They have their own Data Center, with their own AD which is part of a larger forest, and they use exchange 365 whereas we have on premise.

I assume the approach would be to create a one-way external trust, Security groups define access to our systems. However, how should I manage exchange 365 if they are on a tenant, eg, fin01.local? Can I simply migrate their accounts into our on premise exchange (is that doable since we are separate companies?) or do they need a local exchange member server and have it important there?

You can off-board them on-prem, but you need some prerequisites. Steve has a very detailed guide here: http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/office-365/exchange-online/migrating-standalone-office-365-tenant-exchange-2010-part1.html

Hi Vasil,

Thanks for that but what happens if the tenant and your company domain is different.

For example, they are a different company with different domain we have just purchased. Will we be allowed to migrated mailboxes directly into our exchange or is it a 2 step process of having to setup exchange on their end, migrate to their mail server, then do some sort of migration over our converged network?

You can migrate them to your on-prem Exchange directly.
