WIN7 Updates Fail Lenovo Thinkpad

Only see this on Lenovo products as bad as it is in this case. With Dell have been able to do the online fixes "Windows Update Diagnostics" and "Windows6.1-KB3135445-x64".  Thinkpad X230 in production for several years began seeing shutdown issues due to failed updates.
WIN7 Upload failure
Formatted the drive, ran the image from Lenovo recovery, logged in first thing ran updates with the exact same error message, updates fail. Good news it wasn't stuck on rolling back changes although it did take about 30 minutes. Have not been able to install updates without them failing and reverting back. Any ideas of a fix, believe it's likely I need a new image from Lenovo however while discussing this with them would like to get the laptop back into production sooner / if possible.

Try a Windows 7 Repair Install to fix this. You need the Windows 7 DVD OR a working Recovery Partition. See if you have the latter. Here is a Seven Forums tutorial to assist you.

More than likely however, you need the Lenovo Recovery DVD's and reimage the computer. Back it up first.

Think hard about doing this. I am working on a ThinkPad X230 here and it is running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Think about upgrading to Windows 10 instead of spending time and money standing still.

Hi John, already backed up the laptop data is fine. Formatted the drive and ran the Lenovo recovery DVD's. Nothing has been done to this computer outside re-imaging than trying to install updates.

Not billing on this trying to gain knowledge, time spent questionable...for knowledge sake not quite ready to pull the plug on a solution yet. I agree with WIN10 upgrade as an option however I give clients choices and in this instance they prefer to remain on WIN7. Until I can't find a solution or the product expires I prefer to give them these options.

More and more seems like a bad image.

If you used a Lenovo Recovery set, they should replace the set. I have seen this happen before because of a bad set. If you can wait for a new set (3 - 5 days) then try a new set.

Agree, have another Lenovo where the same issue happens, laptop was close to three years old. Will order a new image for this one as well. New laptops no problems.

non of the above worked, turns out another laptop purchased around the same time leads us to believe the image is bad. Ordered a new image from Lenovo. May be narrowed down to faulty Nitro software however quit going down this path since new image is being shipped.
