If you can learn how to use spamassassin, it is very powerful.
Here is an O'Reilly excerpt on doing so...  http://commons.oreilly.com/wiki/index.php/SpamAssassin/Integrating_SpamAssassin_with_Exim

Before trying to install spam filters, confirm that you are already using realtime spam lists.  This may cut the issue down to size without having to use spamassassin or CRM114.

For example, in Postfix it is trivial to validate incoming mail against several different real-time blackhole spammer lists:

# Client (remote sender) restrictions
smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks,
        permit_sasl_authenticated,
        reject_unauth_destination,
        reject_rbl_client zen.spamhaus.org,
        reject_rbl_client bl.spamcop.net,
        reject_rbl_client cbl.abuseat.org,
        reject_rbl_client dnsbl-1.uceprotect.net,
        permit
